Since 2000, head-start.net has worked to foster better communication within the the Head Start community. It is maintained by Tim Rogers and hosted by Head Start of Lane County. head-start.net is funded entirely by donations, subscriptions, and other non-grant funds.

We currently offer the following services:

Lists

Our mailing lists offer another way for the community to communicate. We currently host 13 public lists and a number of private lists. Our web-based software makes it easy to subscribe and unsubscribe to any or all of the lists, and to read archives and digests of past discussions.

If you have a new or existing list of interest to the Head Start community that you would like us to host, please contact us. If we can, we will.

Mail

We offer reasonable rates to organizations for e-mail hosting. Hosting includes industry-standard SMTP and IMAP servers, comprehensive virus and spam filtering, groups and distribution lists, and web-based e-mail. Please contact us for more information.

Chat/Instant Message and Conferencing

We offer a free Jabber/XMPP chat/instant message (IM) and multi-user conference server to the Head Start community. You will need to install a client on your computer and register for your free account at jabber.head-start.net A list of recommended clients is available at http://www.jabber.org/software/clients.shtml. We like Pandion.

I am often available to discuss computer and network issues as well as more general Head Start topics. You can reach me at trogers@jabber.head-start.net

Forum

Our forum is currently disabled. For the past few months, it has been used exclusively to post links to spam and other malware.

If you would be interested in using the forum - and especially if you would like to share your time and expertise by moderating a section of the forum, please contact us. In the past, our discussion forum provided members of the Head Start community with a venue for discussions on topics ranging from politics to grants and job postings to the specifics of early childhood education, health, nutrition, and family services.

Hosting

We also offer inexpensive web site hosting to Head Start grantees and related organizations. Hosting includes access to an industry-standard web server, scripting languages, and databases, automated backups, and optional support with domain registration, web site static or dynamic design and development, and ongoing maintance. Please contact us for more information.

We currently provide web site hosting for the following organizations: Children Rising, Mainstream Housing, Inc., the Oregon Head Start Association (OHSA), and South Coast Head Start.

And more...

Tell us what you would like. Does the Head Start community need a way to share files and documents? Links? Is there interest in a database of community contact information? Should we add blogs? A wiki?
